Foundry fuel – Propane or charcoal

One of the biggest problems for me is in how I can look to fuel any furnace that I build. There are many clear advantages of using propane, but I think I should be a little cautious and maybe start out using charcoal.

Great method of building a simple geometric forms out of everyday items.

The process of decay in the work particularly appeals to me, as it is explained in this short text:
“Over time the rubber bands perish and snap and each unit collapses. The whole structure is then undermined and experiences a random decay. This process was filmed with time-laps photography, programmed to take one image every twenty minutes day and night for 3 months.”

Homemade refactories – for lining furnaces

Many options seem to be available, could even just buy a bag of high temperature fire concrete.

Although there are advantages to these methods for construction of a furnace, there is something I find very appealing in techniques / methods that rely on burying holes and using the soil as insulation instead.
